Enter the world of horrific mummies awoken from their eternal sleep and run around the tomb and desert only to be faced with more vengeful mummies. Escape from Doom promises to be an exciting action game where you will fight for your survival until you finally escape. The walking Egyptian undead are awoken by a greedy and mindless archeologist and now you must destroy all of them and make peace. You are thrown into a game without any weapons. You must keep a watchful eye out for any treasure chests around the map. Sacred urns are quite important items because you will find keys in them. In chests you can find various of weapons such as pistols, crossbow and shotguns, as they will help you out to escape much easier. Rank up your bonus points by sending guardians back to the tomb.

Unfortunately, what would sound like an exciting adventure game might come with numerous of flaws throughout the gameplay. Since the movement of player left or right is by holding down on the screen and to fire is by tapping the center, the commands are not sensitive enough and it simply feels unresponsive and sloppy. You can also choose in the settings menu to change your controls to TILT but it still feels as you are just driving a huge truck more than trying to avoid angry mummy mob. After a while things start to get frustrating due to command failure, but it can still be amusing for a short period of time. With no potential in aiming, the player is forced to simply shoot forward, although the inclusion of shooting was a big selling point. Overall, the impact on game value, shooting has rather minimal. Choose between screen controls, area based or eternal gyroscope and start your journey through sandstorm filled with mummies wanting to get you. Escape from Doom’s design is very well balanced. With the first-person perspective you won’t miss out on any horrifying detail. All the levels are randomly generated so after a while once you get a hang of the game, you will progress even further into the nightmare for even more chills and thrills. You can use a pair off goggles to see even further while the sandstorm is blocking your sight, to find a location where are new weapons hidden.

At first glance you might think that developers took Temple Run and simply changed the perspective and what is actually wanting to hunt you down. But it doesn’t seem so silly once you enter the sandstorm filled with unwanted mummy visitors. When you get hit, there will be a splash of red on the screen and if one of them gets you, you will be introduced to teeth gnashing animation; your best option is to sprint as quick as you can out of the Egyptian ruin. With well rendered graphics, everything is smooth as far the animation goes, so even if you get close to check out pointed teeth you can see them clearly.

In this endless running around game, the best thing would be if developers add level choices or simply better the control scheme. With a variety of different choices off levels and difficulty, you could get more excitement from playing it and a bit more challenge. Using a good story twist after finishing a level could provide more tangible goals than ones already given. Escape from Doom is quite fun but could see a few improvements in future, but overall well-polished and welcome to everyone who want their nerves pressed.
