FIFA 20 Vs PES 2021: Licensed Leagues, Teams And Players - NovaGames

The intense rivalry between FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) has continued for nearly a quarter century. Over that time, winning this sales competition has largely depended on acquiring the necessary licensing to use official teams and kits. Overall game quality has generally taken a backseat to this. Electronic Arts (EA) mostly won these ongoing licensing battles and, as a result, has had more official teams and kits in their FIFA games than Konami’s PES. Ultimately, this is what has kept EA’s FIFA on top.

Perhaps, the tide is turning and PES is beginning to rise to the top. Konami, for its PES 2020, recently purchased the exclusive rights to Juventus F.C., Italy’s best club, forcing EA to rename the team “Piemonte Calcio” in future FIFA editions. In the following paragraphs we will detail what official players, teams and leagues you can expect to find in each game.


Exclusive Leagues


Last year, EA regained exclusive rights to the Champion’s League, the greatest club competition in football, and its related Super Cup and Europa League competitions for FIFA 19. This remarkable acquisition occurred after Konami had solely owned those rights for ten years. With that said, Konami is far from losing this licensing war. Recently, the company has seized the rights to produce a DLC updated with the Euro 2020 qualifying teams (and associated kits). In other news, for the first time, the Romanian League is being added to FIFA 20.


After noting the differences between the two programs, it’s important to present their similarities. The following leagues appear in both games: SAF Superliga (Argentina); Pro League (Belgium); Superliga (Denmark); Ligue 1 & Ligue 2 (France); and Serie A (Italy). Also, some leagues PES depicts that are licensed by EA are given fake logos and names.


Partner Clubs


Sometimes football games attempt to partner with football clubs to produce exclusive content. Some of these partnership have a profound impact. For example, Konami’s agreements with Juventus and Barcelona have won it exclusive use of two of the greatest stadiums in global football, Italy’s Allianz Stadium and Spain’s Camp Nou.

While PES 2020 currently has far fewer included icons, it still has some remarkable players. One example of this is David Beckham, a player that only PES will have this year.
